From Rug Weaving to a Creative Destination
Abakhan began in the late 1940s as a family rug-weaving business. From those beginnings, the company grew into fabric retail, with Mostyn in North Wales becoming the heart of the business and home to our flagship store.
Today, Abakhan is known for fabrics, yarns, haberdashery, sewing accessories, craft supplies and sewing machines, together with clearance parcels, special buys and value ranges that have always been an important part of what makes Abakhan different.

More Than a Fabric Store – The Abakhan Village
Our flagship Mostyn site has evolved into much more than a traditional retail store. The Abakhan Village is now a growing community of independent businesses, adding even more reasons to visit.
From hair and beauty, wellbeing and specialist healthcare to interiors, plants, pets, handmade crafts, travel, coffee, ceramics, children's books and toys and other independent services, The Village brings together a diverse collection of small businesses in one destination.
Combined with the main Abakhan store, café, creative classes, events and free parking, The Abakhan Village helps make Mostyn a destination where visitors can shop, eat, discover and create.
Abakhan Beyond the UK
The Abakhan story also extends beyond the UK. Since the early 1990s, Abakhan has developed a strong presence in the Baltic States, bringing fabrics, yarns, sewing and handicraft products to customers in Estonia and Latvia.
Today, the Baltic business operates stores in both countries alongside its own e-commerce operation. Its range includes fabrics, yarns, sewing supplies and craft materials, continuing the same Abakhan tradition of choice, creativity and value.
Fabric sold by weight also remains part of the Abakhan experience in the Baltic States, reflecting one of the distinctive ideas long associated with the business.
Still Family-Led
Abakhan remains a family-led business. While much has changed since the late 1940s, our focus remains on giving customers choice, value and inspiration – whether they have been shopping with us for decades or are discovering Abakhan for the first time.
